On May 5, 2013, the VW Cruisers hosted their 12th annual – Flight VW car show. It was held in conjunction with the Opening Day of the Flying Air Circus at the old grass Aerodrome in Bealeton, Virginia.  Festivities got started on Saturday evening, when gates open at 5 p.m. for overnight campers.  The grill was fired up around 7 p.m. to serve up some food.  The “Herbie” movie was shown on a large outdoor screen and was enjoyed by all. Those campers who slept under the stars or in a tent overcame the very cold temperatures, while others simply turned on their generators to heat their campers.

Sunday turned out to be the most beautiful day we could have asked for.  The VW Cruisers starting preparing for the steady parade of VWs as they arrived for the big event. New and used parts vendors brought their goodies, while registrants were given goody bags and dash plaques. T-shirts, 50/50 raffle tickets, and snacks were also sold. Registrants were given three ballots to choose specialty awards for People’s Choice, Ladies Choice, and Top 25.

The Airfield started revving up the 1930’s bi-planes, giving open cockpit rides before the Air festivities started at 2:00 pm. Everyone enjoyed the plane formations, parachuting stunts, and the death defying acts performed by those brave wing walkers.

The VW Trophy ceremony resumed at 3:30 pm, and the TOP 25 trophies, specialty trophies and the custom fabricated “Best of” trophies were handed out.  Our independent judging of the “Best of” awards went off without a hitch.  Overall, this was a very successful event with people coming from as far away as Florida.
